The Laguna de Los Condores trek is one of our most popular treks and undoubtedly an amazing way to experience the pristine beauty of northern Peru like never before! We start the day early at 5:00 AM. We will drive for two hours in a private car to the town of Leymebamba. At this time, you will be able to catch a few extra hours of sleep or watch the sunrise through the windows of the car as we drive through the scenic countryside of northern Peru. When we arrive in Leymebamba, we will eat breakfast at a local restaurant and enjoy our first meal from the Andean culture. After we have finished enjoying our meals, we will begin our trek for the day which will take approximately 10 hours. We typically cover this distance entirely on foot, but it is also possible to rent horses and cover part of the distance on horseback if you prefer. We will make periodic stops to rest and enjoy beautiful views as well as take a mid-day break for lunch. Following lunch, we will continue on our journey and eventually arrive at a small cabin near the Laguna de los Cóndores where we will eat dinner and spend the night.

We will wake up early and eat breakfast before hiking about one hour to get to the Laguna de los Cóndores. When we arrive to the lagoon, we will have time to take pictures and relax in the beauty of mother nature before getting in a small boat and crossing the lagoon. After we have crossed the Laguna de los Cóndores, we will begin a one hour hike up to the lost mausoleums of the Chachapoya people. When we arrive at the mausoleums, our guide will show us around the site and teach us the most unique and interesting aspects about the Chachapoya mausoleums. When our tour of the area is complete, we will hike downhill to return to our boat and spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing and fishing. Just before the sun begins to go down, we will head back to our cabin, eat a delicious dinner, and sleep under the beautiful Andean sky.

We will wake up early and enjoy our final breakfast of the trek. After we have finished eating breakfast and have packed up our things, we will begin a 10 hour hike to the town of Leymebamba. When we arrive in Leymebamba, we will visit the unique Leymebamba Museum. This museum was constructed to serve as a way to preserve the mummies and artifacts recovered from the Laguna de los Cóndores in 1997. In the museum, you will have the opportunity to see over 2000 artifacts including 219 mummies from the Chachapoya mausoleums and 32 quipus from the Incas. Due to the items in the collection of this museum, it is easily one of the most unique in all of South America! After you have finished exploring the museum, we will return to Chachapoyas in a private car and conclude the trek.

Gran Vilaya Trekking Chachapoyas Peru

The Gran Vilaya Trekking is certain to impress and leave you with memories that you will never forget. In this trek, we will explore the grounds of the famous Karajía sarcophagi, visit the archaeological site of Pirquilla, meet the locals of small rural villages, eat traditional meals, ride horses, visit the historic walled fortress of Kuelap, and enjoy hours upon hours of incredibly scenic views along the way. You will see some of the most beautiful landscapes that northern Peru has to offer while visiting some of the most historically important sites in the Amazonas region. The combination of beautiful views, cultural immersion, and time frame make this trek one of the most recommended treks in northern Peru.

We begin our trek in the city of Chachapoyas. We will leave the city early in the morning and take a private vehicle to Cruz Pata. When we arrive in Cruz Pata, we will take a short 1 km walk to the sarcophagi of Karajia. Our professional guide will show us around the unique archaeological site and teach us about the Chachapoya culture and how the burial grounds were used. After our tour is finished, we will return to our vehicle and drive for one hour until we reach Huaylla Belén. When we arrive in Huaylla Belén, we will have the evening to relax, eat a tasty traditional dinner, and get some sleep.

We will wake up and eat breakfast in Huaylla Belén before beginning our 15 km trek to Congón. The trekking takes approximately 6 hours and contains excellent views of the surrounding area. We will visit the pre-Incan archaeological site of Pirquilla during the day and arrive in the village of Congón early in the evening. When we arrive in the village, we will have time to relax and recap the day as we meet our local host family, eat dinner, and spend the night in the local family’s home. This is truly a great way to experience the Andean culture of northern Peru!



Today consists of a 20 km horseback ride that will last approximately 7 hours and take us to the highest point of our trip. This day is quite relaxing as we stroll through the beautiful Andes of northern Peru and have an opportunity to observe the stunning views of mountains, wildlife, and vegetation that this region has to offer. When we reach the highest point of our trip, we will have a vehicle waiting for us to take us to the village of María. When we arrive in María we will feast on a traditional meal and then spend the night in a local hostel.

We will wake up early this morning and enjoy a delicious breakfast together. After eating breakfast, we will drive 20 minutes to the welcome center of the Kuelap fortress. Here, we will leave our vehicle and begin a 2 km walk up to the main archaeological site of the pre-Incan fortress called Kuelap. We will spend a few hours exploring the area with our professional guide and learn about the history and customs of the Chachapoya people. Following the tour, we will return to the town of María where we will eat a great traditional lunch. When we are finished with our meals, we will return to Chachapoyas in a private van and conclude the Gran Vilaya trekking.

We start the trek with a great 15km day that begins in Chachapoyas, Peru. We will head towards the great Inca trail of Capac Ñan and when we arrive we will continue trekking on the path for a truly once-in-a-lifetime experience. As we trek on the Capac Ñan, we will make a brief stop to visit the archaeological site of Yápale before arriving in the small village of Levanto. When we arrive in Levanto, we will eat a tasty traditional dinner and spend the night in the community.

We will wake up early and eat a delicious breakfast in Levanto. After we finish enjoying our meals, we will say goodbye to our friends in the village and begin our 18 km trek at 7:30 AM. This is a truly beautiful day of trekking, and while we need to cover a lot of distance, we will stop to visit two archaeological sites along the way to break it up into more manageable segments. Both of the sites that we visit are from the pre-Incan era and contain a lot of interesting history. The first that we will visit is called Marco and the second is called Machupirca. After visiting the two sites, we will continue our trek to the small village of Tingo. When we arrive in Tingo, we wil have time to relax before eating an amazing traditional dinner and spending the night in a family home.

We will wake up early this morning and eat breakfast in the family home. After we eat breakfast and pack up our things, we will begin a 9 km horseback ride towards the unique archeological site of the Kuelap Fortress. We will stop and eat lunch in a local community along the way and then finish our horseback ride to the Kuelap fortress. When we arrive at the Kuelap fortress, our professional guide will show us around the most unique and interesting sites and teach us about the history of the Chachapoya culture. After our tour is over, we will return to Chachapoyas in a private van and conclude our trek.
